Outdoor Leadership Program

School Students Marvel as Nature Takes its course | PHOTOS

Unlike many other school outdoor leadership programs, Wyncote Academy’s Outdoor Leadership Program is modeled after the National Outdoor Leadership School, a nationally-recognized exploration program. Camping, hiking, climbing, and experiencing nature first-hand make our Outdoor Leadership Program truly exciting. School students are given the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in various ecosystems while helping them overcome personal limitations and learn vital life management skills.

Through excursions to locations such as the Baltimore Aquarium, the New York Museum of American Natural History, the Wind River Mountains and Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming, the Badlands of South Dakota, and the rainforests in Washington, students explore archeology, ecology, geology, and paleontology. While on excursion students learn to work with their fellow voyagers and handle physically and mentally challenging situations building discipline, self-reliance, independence, consideration, and cooperation.

In our efforts to prevail as an exceptional “alternative education” high school, the Outdoor Leadership Program takes as many as 10 trips a year and may involve such activities as canoeing, mineral digging, backpacking, snow shoeing, nature walks, sight-seeing, animal watching, and white water rafting.
